She makes the most astute observations of all the judges, and I look forward to reading her blog. Frankly, without Margaret the show would be a total stinkeroo.

equate those tracks with Kiefer photos. Then is it art?
Actually, those track images were created by me on photoshop so maybe they should also be compared with Kiefer.
Anyway, Duchamp proved that all we need to do is put them in a museum to make them art. Now all we need to do is come up with a theory -- or some bullshit that sounds theory-ish.
That's kind of what I'm getting at - I don't think being good at a craft is bullshit- like some theory. But the suv challenge could have been about cleansing America on some level- instead of being just a car commercial. Duchamp in many ways killed traditional art but also opened the door to performance art-and a lot of IMO crackpots who can talk but can't make anything. Duchamp was brilliant in his subversion of the art world.
I guess this is a pet topic I haven't been able to sort out- and my education made it worse.

oh- and I don't see the difference between the tracks painted on the floor and your recreation. I don't think it makes a difference.

And speaking of Duchamp- my understanding is that Duchamp let his friends recreate his art boxes (and sold them as his own work)when they needed money.
